Round Island Race Catamaran
This is a three-day weekend to include taking part in the annual spectacle of the Round the Island Race on our Open 40 catamaran. With over 1500 boats likely to take part, there will be constant action and potential conflict, plus plenty of over-taking and being over taken!
You can arrive Thursday evening or Friday morning and we'll use Friday as a training day to get you familiar with the boat and give you a reminder on some of the basics. If the weather looks suitable for using the spinnaker or asymmetric, we'll also do a session on one or other of those sails. We'll also make our way over to Cowes to stay the night there.
On Friday evening we'll stay the night in a reserved berth in Cowes and get a meal in a local restaurant like the Lifeboat and chat over race-day plans.
On Saturday, the Multihulls start first, so our start is likely to be quite early to get the boat to the start area off Cowes on time. Of course the nature of the day after that depends largely on the weather. If winds are light, it could take 12 hours or more to get around, but with a bit more of a blow we might do it in 8. Either way our ultimate aim will be to get back to Cowes for the night and get a meal locally before joining the party for a few hours.
After a very long day, we'll deserve a lie in on Sunday, followed by a nice cooked breakfast and then a leisurely sail back with a stop somewhere at anchor for a late lunch. We'll aim to have you back in Gosport by 5 pm.
The price includes 3 nights and 3 full days on board the yacht, professional skipper, race entry, mooring costs, 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches, full safety gear and hire of wet weather if you think you'll need it (it is June).
